Embassy Spokesperson on wrongful remarks related to China by relevant UK official

Question: In a statement to the House of Commons on the so-called Chinese spies on 11 September, a UK official criticised China for disregarding human rights in Xinjiang and Hong Kong, and coercion and intimidation in the South China Sea, and alleged that China poses a "systemic challenge" to the UK and its values. What is your comment?

Embassy Spokesperson: These remarks by the UK side were a total misrepresentation of the facts and constituted blatant interference in China's internal affairs. We firmly oppose and strongly condemn it.

China has always been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order. We have always followed the principles of mutual respect, equality and non-interference in each other's internal affairs and are committed to building a human community with a shared future. Allegations on China posing a challenge to the UK or its values are completely unfounded.

Issues related to Xinjiang and Hong Kong are purely China's internal affairs. No external force has the right to interfere. On the South China Sea, China's actions to safeguard its national sovereignty and maritime rights and interests are justified and legitimate. As a country from outside the region, the UK should respect the efforts of China and ASEAN countries in maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea, rather than provoking trouble.

We urge the UK to stop seeking pretexts to advance its plots, stop interfering in China's internal affairs, and stop engaging in anti-China political manipulation.  Instead, the UK should focus more on addressing its own problems.
