On 19th May 2023, Mr. Zhang Biao, Chinese Consul General in Edinburgh, met with Councillor Jacqueline McLaren, Lord Provost of the City of Glasgow.

Consul General Zhang noted that as China embarks on a new journey to build itself into a great modern socialist country in all respects and makes a big push to promote Chinese modernization, China's development will bring important opportunities and huge boons to Scotland and other countries and regions. Glasgow is at the forefront of UK cities in terms of cooperation with China. It maintains close exchanges with its sister city Dalian. The number of Chinese students studying in Glasgow is on the rise and practical cooperation in various fields is fruitful. The two sides should seize the opportunity to promote economic and trade exchanges, green science and technology cooperation, and local and cultural communications to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

Councillor Jacqueline McLaren welcomed Consul General Zhang for taking office and stressed that Glasgow values cooperation with China and stands ready to actively strengthen economic cooperation, educational exchanges, and cultural learning with China. The City of Glasgow Council will continue to provide quality service to Chinese students and tourists and keep on supporting the development of local Chinese communities to promote economic and cultural exchanges.
