On 24 May, Chinese Consul General Ma Qiang paid a visit to the UK’s leading bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) in Falkirk, Scotland, and toured the production lines of electric buses manufactured in partnership with Chinese automobile company BYD.

ADL’s Factory Director Euan Cameron and BYD UK’s Production Manager David Berrie introduced CG Ma Qiang to the partnership’s EV business. The successful eBus venture has delivered over 1000 electric buses for more than 10 cities, covering 50-70% of the UK’s market over the past decade. Last year, the fleet of ADL-BYD zero emission buses provided shuttle service at the COP26 UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, demonstrating the venture’s strength in green transport and technology. The two partners also expressed their commitment to further cooperation.

CG Ma acclaimed the partnership as a model of China-Scotland economic links and green-development cooperation. He said, it is in the interests of both Chinese and Scottish people to tackle the challenges of climate change. There’s a great potential for bilateral cooperation in green transport and green technology. He encouraged ADL and BYD to seize the opportunity and deepen the strategic partnership by leveraging their respective advantages in market, design and technology, so as to produce more fruitful results.
